Satsuma Kiriko
Originated in Kagoshima, Satsuma Kiriko is the representative high-end traditional handicraft in Japan since the 19th century. Kagoshima was called Satsuma clan at that time and the feudal lord, Nariakira Shimazu, the 28th generation of Shimazu Family, actively promoted Satsuma Kiriko as an important product for overseas trade. During the turmoil at the end of the Shogunate period, the craftsmanship of Satsuma Kiriko was lost. Until 1985, it was revived in the hands of professional artisans.
"Kiriko" means crystal glass carved with patterns in Japanese. Satsuma Kiriko is renowned for the overlapping of transparent crystal glass with colored crystal glass which creates a distinguished beauty of its own under the exquisite cutting workmanship by the proficient craftsmen.
By manipulating the cutting angles and depth, the unique gradation effect of Satsuma Kiriko called "Halo" is created. The finely carved crystal glass shines like jewels when being refracted by light. The exquisiteness and meticulousness of Satsuma Kiriko perfectly presents the superb craftsmanship of Japanese artisans. Satsuma Kiriko has been highly praised in the crystal glass industry around the world.
Deshimaru (弟子丸)
Satsuma Kiriko made its revival in 1985. Mr. Tsutomu Deshimaru, a master craftsman of Kiriko, has been involved in the production of Satsuma Kiriko since then. The famous glass workshop in Kagoshima, Deshimaru, was established under his name in 2011. To pursue the realm of perfection, Deshimaru works tirelessly and persistently refines the skill of producing Kiriko.
While upholding the traditional workmanship, Deshimaru adds new values in the creations with modern innovative expressions. Deshimaru reflects a modern world of Satsuma Kiriko with new sparkle in its tradition and nostalgia.

• Kikumon (Chrysanthemum)
• Sasanoha (Bamboo Leaf)
• Nanakomon (Fish)
Satsuma Kiriko Timepiece includes either “12” or “24” cuts of each pattern, the two significant numbers representing the rhythm of time.
Delicacy of Taste
To match with the birth period of Satsuma Kiriko, the hour and minute hands of Satsuma Kiriko timepiece are designed with the art concept of the 19th century.
Through multiple treatment process, the traditional pattern called Hakaku Kagome (Octagonal cage) is cast on the surface of the hands. Coupled with the dazzling garnet decoration, the clock embodies the meaning of loyalty, authenticity and steadfastness.
